Message from Councilman Roshan (Roc) White | June 27, 2025
As we welcome the summer of 2025, and make plans for some well-deserved fun and relaxation, everything you need for a memorable “stay-cation” is right here in Scotch Plains. There are countless opportunities to relax, explore and connect with friends, both new and old.
And all this fun is available to you at no cost.
We’re making great progress on park upgrades throughout our community. Kramer Manor Park on Evelyn Street, in particular, is undergoing an exciting transformation. After years of wear, the park’s tennis and basketball courts are being restored.
Even better, Kramer Manor will soon feature four brand-new pickleball courts, allowing residents to enjoy the sport that keeps growing in popularity. These new courts are expected to be ready in the next couple of weeks, making Kramer Manor an even better place to enjoy the outdoors and stay active.
Additionally, Green Forest Park on Westfield Road will soon be home to a fully-renovated playground, another fun destination for the whole family.
For those seeking ways to cool off, don’t forget about the local spray park at Ponderosa Farm Park off Cooper Road. The spray park is open weekends from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and is surrounded by two fantastic playgrounds for children of all ages, as well as sports fields and plenty of places for a picnic.
And for nature lovers, Watchung Reservation is just across Route 22, offering more than 2,000 acres of scenic trails, picnic areas, and plenty of opportunities for hiking, biking and wildlife spotting. This treasured preserve is a wonderful destination for a day outdoors.
I’d also like to remind everyone that Scotch Plains will celebrate Independence Day with a spectacular fireworks display on June 28.
Independence Day is a foundational moment for our community, reminding us of the courage and vision that built our nation. It’s a time to honor those who have sacrificed for our liberty and to inspire the next generation to serve the community and country.
Festivities at Shady Rest Country Club on Jerusalem Road will begin at 7 p.m. with kids’ activities and entertainment, followed by the fireworks.
This summer, our town is also buzzing with excitement thanks to our annual concert series. The fun kicks off on July 10 at the Alan M. Augustine Village Green with “Simply the Best,” a tribute to 80s female rock legends such as Joan Jett, Pat Benatar and Tina Turner.
Then, on July 24, Scotch Plains will be treated to “Crystal Pepsi and the Zimas,” who will perform the best of 90s party rock.
Your summer stay-cation isn’t complete without experiencing all the local flavor Scotch Plains has to offer. Be sure to visit our weekly Farmers Market, where you’ll find fresh, locally-grown produce, artisan foods and family-friendly activities. It’s a wonderful opportunity to support local farmers and enjoy the best of the season.
While you’re out and about, take time to support our local businesses. Our downtown is filled with unique shops, cafés and restaurants, offering everything from casual bites to delightful meals. Your patronage helps our small business community thrive and keeps Scotch Plains vibrant all year long.
Thank you to all our residents for continuing to build and maintain such a vibrant community. I look forward to seeing everyone around town this summer!
