Message from Councilwoman Elizabeth Stamler | September 12, 2025

On Sunday, October 5, our community will once again gather for one of our most cherished traditions – Scotch Plains Day. From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Park Avenue and East 2nd Street will be transformed into a lively celebration filled with food, live music, entertainment and activities for all ages.

For many, this is a highlight of the fall season, an opportunity to celebrate our shared pride in being part of such a strong, caring and connected community.

Children will be running from game to game, families will sample delicious food from local vendors and businesses will line the street to showcase their products and services.

This year’s event features a curated vintage market, an inflatable maze and kids zone with giveaways and a car show presented by G-Wiz Auto Entertainment. In just a few blocks, you’ll see the incredible variety of talent, culture and energy that exists right here in Scotch Plains.

Community groups and nonprofits will also be there, sharing their missions and inviting residents to get involved. In just a few blocks, you can see the incredible variety of talent, culture and energy that exists right here in Scotch Plains.

Of course, Scotch Plains Day is the culmination of an entire weekend of activities. On Friday, October 3, families can kick things off at the Village Green with pumpkin painting at 6:15 p.m., followed by a showing of Hotel Transylvania at 7:15 p.m.

On Saturday, October 4, we’ll gather again at the Village Green for the Rose Checchio Walk to Wipe Out Breast Cancer, with check-in at 8:30 a.m. and the walk beginning at 9:00 a.m. This annual tradition supports Play for P.I.N.K., an organization that benefits the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, and has raised more than $85 million to bring about breakthroughs in detection, treatment, prevention and survivorship.

Later that morning, from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., Scotch Plains residents can drop off items for the FreeCycle Market at Jerseyland Park, where people can donate and “shop” for free items.

None of these events happen overnight. Scotch Plains Weekend takes months of planning and coordination, and we are fortunate to have dedicated township staff, our Department of Parks and Recreation, Public Works, Police, Fire, Rescue Squad, and many volunteers working behind the scenes.

Their hard work ensures these events are safe, organized, and enjoyable for all. I want to thank every individual who plays a role in making this weekend possible – your efforts allow the rest of us to simply show up and celebrate.

I encourage every resident to join us October 3–5. Whether you stop by for an hour or spend the whole weekend, you’ll leave with a renewed appreciation for our town and the people who make it so special.
